Group Halloween Costume Ideas for Children
- Group costume ideas for children
Our family has done a group Halloween theme for several years. It is a fun way to plan Halloween because everyone can participate and the theme can extend beyond just the costumes. Here are some ideas that have worked and been celebrated.
The Wizard of Oz.
Lots of classic Wizard of Oz creatures can be included with this great movie theme. In addition to the obvious main characters, flying monkeys, munchkins, and residents of the emerald city all can be added to your candy hunting crew. Costumes can be simple and therefore inexpensive leaving you money to make cleverly themed snacks. For instance, try putting a piece of candy corn down into each finger of a clear plastic glove then fill the glove with popcorn. Voila, you have witches hands.
Scooby-Doo.
The great thing about doing the ole Scooby gang is once you have Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred you can get really creative with the rest of your eerie clan. Monsters and strange looking people characters are fun and easily made. It is great to have a swamp creature or a bright ghost that people will remember from so many episodes. Flashlights are part of the gangs costume’s already which helps with safety while you are out scavenging for candy, er…clues. Here again, costumes can be made on the cheap. Don’t forget the Scooby snacks.
A Swarm of Bees.
With this fun theme you can have bees, sting victims, a queen bee, and even honey pots. Costumes can be easily made with dark sweatpants, yellow sweatshirts and face paint. Add insect antennae and the bees are done. There is hardly anything cuter than an infant, cozy in a stroller, dressed as a cuddly petite bumble bee.
Classic Children’s Stories.
Also, many familiar classic children’s stories can be made into original costume ideas. Each child could be a different character or each family could be a story. “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “Little Red Riding Hood” are a couple of stories that convert easily into costumes for individuals or small groups.
Whatever you decide to do this Halloween, always remember to consider safety. Everyone must be able to easily walk, see, and be seen. In addition, it won’t matter how cute the kiddos are if they are uncomfortable and ready to head home. Have a great time and Happy Halloween!
